ONE TO WATCH: JESSICA FADDOUL

The talent that we have in Australia never ceases to astound me. Since her label's inception in 2011, Jessica Faddoul has proven herself to be one to watch. Faddoul embodies the modern woman who loves to look effortless, her designs are inspired and refined with a twist in the form of a backless detail, cutout or mixing textures. Having recently opened her pop-up space on William Street in Paddington, there is no doubt that this talented lady has nowhere to go but up.

Where and how did you start Faddoul?
I started FADDOUL after studying at Central St Martins in London. I came back to Australia feeling incredibly inspired and I was ready to channel that creativity into my own label.

Who is the woman you design for?
The FADDOUL muse doesn’t take herself too seriously, it’s important that she feels confident and comfortable in whatever she wears.

What has been the most exciting and the most challenging thing about starting your own label?
The opportunity to create collections that I really love and to work for myself has been so exciting. But I don’t have an ‘off switch’, I live and breathe what I do and I’m always dreaming up new designs.

How would you describe your own personal style?
It’s constantly evolving and largely dependent on my mood. One day I’ll be dressed in black from head-to-toe and on other days I’ll feel like wearing prints or florals… and I never met a midi dress I didn’t like!

Signature scent?
My bathroom cabinet is filled with dozens of different perfumes but I keep going back to Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf.

Most treasured item in your wardrobe?
My chanel handbags – they’ll never go out of style.

What are you currently listening to?

Our current playlist at our little pop up shop [6 William Street Paddington] is pretty eclectic… Lauryn Hill, Lorde, John Legend and Amy Winehouse have all be on high rotation.

I’ve seen a sneak peak for your AW15 collection shot in Paris, what was the experience like shooting that?

Paris is one of my favourite cities in the world, so it was a major ‘Is This Seriously Real Life?’ moment in my career. The AW15 collection - CHANT - was inspired by the typical nonchalance of an enigmatic Parisian woman so the wintry city streets were the perfect backdrop.

If you had more time to do one thing, what would you do?
I would sleep in every now and again. Actually scrap that, I would travel more, there is nothing more liberating than living out of a suitcase.

Is there anything you are currently coveting?
I just started Christmas shopping, so I’m trying to rack my brains to remember what everyone else in my life has been coveting!

Favourite quote?
“Stay hungry, stay foolish” – Steve Jobs.

What inspires you to keep going every day?
My customers keep me going, I get such a rush from seeing girls walk by the shop and literally stop in their tracks to admire one of our dresses.

Take a peep at the some of my favourite looks from the AW15 collection, one of my favourite collections to date from one of my new favourite Australian labels! Pre-order will be available very soon here.
