LEADING THE PACK: VIKTORIA + WOODS

images provided by viktoria + woods

There's nothing that inspires me more than women who are building empires for themselves and constantly pushing the envelope in their field of choice. Lisa Reynolds and Margie Woods are the brains and beauties behind Viktoria + Woods, one of my favourite Australian labels at the moment.

Their sleek designs and focus on beautiful elevated basics have become their signature and with the release of their Resort 15 collection, Zephyr, comes a stream of the perfect easy-to-wear pieces that you don't have to think twice about throwing on - they'll work well with everything! Click through to see a sneak peek at some of my favourite looks from the new collection.

Lisa and Margie were lovely enough to answer some questions for me about the label, the collection and also a few things about themselves too...

What was life before starting Viktoria + Woods?

Lisa: Elise Caarels, a handbag and accessories design house.
Margie: Director and founder of The LOFFT Fashion Agency (which I am still director of).

Where does the label’s name come from?

The original founding directors Margie and Victoria. Lisa took over from Victoria in 2011 as a co-director and designer.

What’s the inspiration behind the latest collection, Zephyr?

It is a sporty, fluid and feminine collection which reveals a very modern way of layering textures and varying proportions even in the warmer months. Layering has always been a very strong part of our labels history and we really wanted to show how this styling can be achieved even in high summer dressing. Lightweight textures and raw hemlines were key.

Greatest achievement?

We feel blessed to work with each other every day doing something we love, alongside a team of passionate professionals. There was also that ‘pinch yourself’ moment when Cate Blanchett was snapped wearing top to toe Viktoria and Woods in NYC.

Who do you look to for style inspiration?

This is always changing. It is often our own changing wardrobe needs. Always looking for ways to make it more contemporary and relevant to lifestyle, but equally timeless and effortless. Fabrics are always a starting point.

Signature scents?

Margie: Molecule 01 (from Mecca).
Lisa: Florabotanica by Balenciaga.

What’s your favourite thing about having your own label?

Aside from the endless wardrobe….The ability to balance life and work. Be inspired everyday by the people you choose to have on your team. Most of all, its that feeling you get when people genuinely love what you create and choose to purchase our design.

One thing you admire about each other?

Margie: I admire Lisa’s determination, boundless creativity and her ability to always put others first. Even when we are having the most stressful of weeks and deadlines looming, Lisa still finds a way to surprise us with a small gift of flowers, or even a gingerbread man on our desks the next morning.
Lisa: To list one is just too difficult for me as I admire Margie for so many reasons. From her incredible strength to her great compassion. She’s extremely creative. passionate and inspires everyday.

What are you currently listening to?

Margie: Customised mix including tracks by Chet Faker, Milky Chance & Jungle
Lisa: Disclosure to Kanye to Beyonc√©. Not fussy!

Most treasured item in your wardrobe?

Margie: On high rotation at the moment is my Isabel Marant Bart Leather sneakers, because I am always on the go.
Lisa: Celine Phantom Luggage Bag. Perfect storage for my chaotic busy life.

Any current obsessions?

Margie: Yoga, clean eating, floral artistry.
Lisa: A very long holiday somewhere tropical and restful. Its been an epic year!

Something you can’t leave the house without?

Margie + Lisa: iPhone, sunglasses and a Viktoria + Woods coat.

The Resort 15 collection, 'Zephyr', will be dropping in stores in October and November.
