HER EMPIRICAL LIFE: TANJA GACIC

In a sea of monochrome, Miss Tanja Gacic is a breath of fresh air. Not one to shy away from colour, her enviable style is refreshingly vibrant and always looks effortless in a I-just-threw-this-together-in-five-minutes kind of way while remaining to look polished.

Her blog, My EmpiricalLife, is a portal into her incredible life  a creative platform which allows her combine her love of writing with that of fashion, travel, photography, food and beauty all into the one pretty little corner on the Internet. Tanja is also part of Vogue Australia’s Spy Style blogger network where she shares her insider styling tips and tricks (including a great post on 6 ways to wear leather – love!).

I was lucky enough to speak with the lovely and ridiculously beautiful Tanja about her beauty essentials, wanderlust, being a health nut and of course fashion!

Oh My Gilded: What made you want to start your blog, My Empirical Life?

Tanja Gacic: I had been modelling for 16 years and wasn't sure what direction I wanted to take for the next stage of my life. I was interested in so many things and loved many aspects of different careers. I started My Empirical Life because I couldn't make a decision on one path and wanted to indulge all of my interests.

OMG: What’s your most prized possession in your wardrobe?
TG: It changes all the time. I can't say it's only one thing. I truly fall in love with objects at times though – it can be an obsession. I always love my vintage white gold & aquamarine ring that my partner Pav gave me one birthday. And right now I’m loving my new Ebay purchase – a white vintage Gianni Versace tote - it's so swoon worthy!

OMG: What are your top beauty must-haves?
TG: Carla Oates' Coco Balm and Inner Beauty Powder, Jurlique Purely White Skin Brightening cream, Nars Schiap lipstick, Tom Ford lipstick in Blush Nude and Dior mascara
OMG: Are there any items that you’re coveting at the moment?
TG: The pink Chanel "Lego" bag, a sleeveless Balenciaga suit jacket, a crystal Celine jewellery set – I die!

OMG: Who are your favourite designers?
TG: Nicholas Ghèsquiere, Alber Elbaz, Phoebe Philo, Stella McCartney, Raf Simons and I've been loving Simone Rocha lately.

OMG: What’s been your favourite modelling job to date?
TG: Going on a 5 star 2 week trip to the British Virgin Islands with my friends for US Travel & Leisure magazine because lying on the catamaran is not real work and I never put make up on once!

OMG: Just looking at your Instagram I can tell like to cook! What’s your approach to a health and food?
TG: I'm kind of a health nut but I suppose only in the way that I prefer all my ingredients to be pure, simple, seasonal, local and artisan.  I choose organic produce wherever I can because it’s good for me and the environment and I believe in quality over quantity. I'd rather buy organic meat and eat less of it knowing the animal had a nicer life than cut corners and eat huge amounts meat where I know the animal lived in pain. The back story of food really interests me and I love the book "Nourishing Traditions". I'm really into gut health and fermentation of foods.
OMG: Whrere are your favourite shopping destinations?
TG: Los Angeles for great vintage stores and furniture and Paris for the high fashion designer experience like no other.
OMG: You’ve got quite an international background – your Serbian heritage, born in Croatia, living in New Zealand and now being based in Sydney – where’s your favourite place you’ve been to and why?
TG: The Croatian coast has always had a special spot in my heart and I’m so lucky to live in Australia now – it’s incredibly stunning. Gosh I love Greece though and France and Spain and everywhere - I could travel ALL the time like some sort of travel writing bard – there are so many places I'm still dying to visit!

OMG: MBFWA is just around the corner (!), how do you prepare for Fashion Week and what are your essentials?

TG: I really don't do much. I wish I did. I always say I'll get my outfits ready in advance but then I forget, panic and end up totally experimenting on the day. I'd say essentials are my Nikon D7000 camera, great sunglasses, iPhone, and French champagne
OMG: What’s your biggest achievement so far?
TG: My beautiful daughter Coco Valentine

OMG: What’s next for Tanja Gacic?
TG: Some exciting projects, lots of travel, cooking and having fun!
